Strange, answered but didn't show up... so here again.

With around 110 psi in the spare, I could inflate from 25 to 35 psi in all 4 on a light 4x4.

Was just enough for that use but then changed to a diving bottle 2.6 gallon @ 2900 psi... that's slightly more...

Andrew that's actually a good emergency proceedure if needed.

I don't think it will work as well when your tires need upwards of 65psi each... but I always keep the spares overinflated too, partially in case of emergency air but mostly because I'd rather go down to match when I put the spare on then find out it is lower than the tires on the ground.

Re: Is it worth it to build an air tank in the front bumper?

Yep my "E" rated tires take 80 but anything to get me out of a jam can help. Probably better to carry an extra cheapo compressor though, but I guess I'm moving off topic a bit for this section....The bumper tank would have to be fairly massive or have a secondary system of some sort I would think.

Re: Is it worth it to build an air tank in the front bumper?

What is safe as far as overinflation of the spare? Where do you get a fitting that will allow transfer of the air in the spare?

Re: Is it worth it to build an air tank in the front bumper?

Any old tube with two chucks should work for transfer.

I probably wouldn't go over 100 psi, if even that, but that's a guess- I don't know what tires are actually capable of, or what is safe.

Driving around with 35psi in an emergency is better than 25psi, so we're not (well I'm not) talking about airing up to freeway pressure, just getting as much as possible back for pavement.

Re: Is it worth it to build an air tank in the front bumper?

I don't know why, but putting much more air in a tire than the maximum pressure it says on the side wall doesn't sound like a good idea.

Re: Is it worth it to build an air tank in the front bumper?

Hi new here.

How much can you safely over inflate a spare without causing damage? Blowing the bead or valve?

Thanks

Tom
