Re: Oil Viscosity Change

Rob ,
I will post results as soon as I am to put some load on the Van in warmer temperature's , so far I haven't noticed any difference in temperature , sound or oil pressure from the 15/40 !
incidentally the touted upgrade has a quart of Amsoil High Performance Racing Oil added to this refill, this is supposed to lubricate better at the higher temperatures that we all seem to experience , and I am sure that I will get at least 5 more mile's per gallon along with 30 to 40 more horsepower .
At any rate I thought that it was worth a try and will post my finding's . Wish me well .

Re: Oil Viscosity Change

Eric, I still think the exhaust upgrade is worth it as well as the cost and the thermostat is an easy change. Don't know about an engine tunner. I'm hearing some of the newer tunners are CA smog approved but that's just rumor as far as I know and they are probably designed for pickups anyway.

Greg, I still plan to do some of the mods that you did including an additional tranny cooler. As hot as it gets here during summer few degrees makes a difference. Not sure about the air box yet and will be waiting to see what the oil change does on your rig.

Re: Oil Viscosity Change

Dave,

Something to consider on the thermostat: I had that done after the rest of the mods. In my case it didn't make a difference. In fact, I went back the next day to have Sean at Zylstra's modify it further. Still no change. All of this was monitored with the Edge Insight Monitor. Sean didn't have a good answer why.

I have heard here that others have success, don't know why my case is different.

I agree, every degree counts. Zylstra charges about $100 for the thermostat mod, so it is probably worth a shot.

Eric

Re: Oil Viscosity Change

Wonder if it has to do with the bumper and design change to the body?

Re: Oil Viscosity Change

Eric ,
What is your loaded weight as many of our Van's are 10,000 plus before we load all of the little do hickey's that we probably don't need before an adventure . I know that the Fan is not coming on as soon on previously driven gradient's , in fact it doesn't come on much at all now !

Oil Viscosity Change

Our van rang in at just over 9k (it doesn't have any RV stuff).
