Penhouse window cracks

2.5 years ago at the coldest Bears game ever, I opened my penthouse top...only to find a large crack in it (likely from the cold weather).

Yesterday I was packing up my SMB only to find another cracked window.

Anyone have suggestions as to repair?
- I'm thinking of a pool liner kit, but I'm afraid the adhesive will melt in the hot summer sun.
- I'd also consider replacing the clear window with a fabric window.
- Last resort would be a new canvas, but my canvas looks great for 14 years

Thanks in advance

Re: Penhouse window cracks

Try an automobile upholstery shop that also does convertible-tops. They should be able to replace the window(s) with the material for a convertible-top rear window, though it would probably mean removing the entire canvas.

I know the windows on my Bronco's soft top do NOT like to be rolled/folded over when cold.

Re: Penhouse window cracks

Herb, thanks for the suggestion.

Made me think of an entirely different approach. Since I tailgate in the SMB, the cracking windows will always be and issue as is with convertible tops

I'm thinking of replacing all windows with fabric.

Replace the whole canvas with one giant Bears themed banner!

Re: Penhouse window cracks

Marty, isn't the top covered by warrantee? I thought it's lifetime for wear and tear (no pun intended) but could be wrong.

Re: Penhouse window cracks

I'm not the original owner.

SMB said tire covers are 'free' replacement, but I got it 1/2 off as not the original owner.

I may email and ask... worth a try, thanks

Update!!!

I decided on an unorthodox solution. I used a custom patch with heat n bond fabric adhesive. Looks good and was cheap and quick

Re: Penhouse window cracks

Maybe a strong, flexible, clear glue/silcone/superglue adhearing a strip of clear vinyl to the cracked window. Just a thought. I would buy some vinyl and try the repair on it before mucking up the real thing. Good luck!

Well we wouldn't know if it looks good or not, since you haven't posted any pics.

Penhouse window cracks

What would be nice is to be able to unzip the clear plastic for winter and zip in a insulated cloth window. Just a idea.

Might be a good idea for the screens also. Get a rip you get a replacement and zip it in. Alan and Johnny remember that's my idea.
