Solar Shower build

Test project
Meant to mount left and right on aluminess roof rack
(but with 10 foot pipe)

Built with local parts, Lowes,Fergusons and Harbor Freight tools

Once i had all the parts and tools, it went together in 30 min

Only one leak, the upper galvanized pipe needed teflon tape

Vetoed the rack mount, i dont want 120 pounds up on my rack

Tools available if you want to build your own, you pay shipping
and the cost of a 12 pack

More photos in my gallery

bw out

Re: Solar Shower build

any more pics mounted and in use (I mean the non neked kind )

More pics is better than more cowbell, most of the time. Thank you, Suz

Re: Solar Shower build

Note to builders, I used the "lightweight" not for pressure 4 inch pipe (Cellotex?-at home depot). Not the true schedule 40 stuff. It has bent/sagged in the 100 F. heat even when empty (no weight). Like a limp noodle handing over 3 Thule load bars.

Will have to be redone completely.

Re: Solar Shower build

Is the top fitting to pressurize the system?

Did you consider installing the air line fitting into the end cap? It seems that it would be much easier.

Re: Solar Shower build

I thought the top fitting would be for filling.

I can see not wanting to drive around with extra water weight up top, but if you're parked you could fill it when you stop, go hike or whatever throughout the day and have hot showers in the evening. Kind of like a hard mount solar shower.

Re: Solar Shower build

They work pretty well non pressurized. Just gravity fed. One less thing to mess with.
