Re: Swingers

Zeta,
Enough already, you are driving me crazy. Just when I think I am near done with the upgrades...then I see your rig :> Great job and offers peace of mind when carrying loads atop the spare tire and galley box.

Swingers

Thanks for the comments. After nearly two weeks of bouncing around back roads in Utah, Nevada and California--including an aborted trip to the Dollhouse in Canyonlands (too hardcore for me), the swingers are still perfect even with the roto-pax tanks mostly filled. I would say there is at least 160lbs on the right side! I still need to stiffen the doors, the left side door needing it the most.

Re: Swingers

I like it. Great improvement, it is long overdue. When mine finally fails I will do the same thing. I like the elimination of the "tail light protectors" and use of 2" box to the frame. Grreat job

Re: Swingers

Like the design as well. I am doing a custom as well but need to be able to open my doos all the way so doing mine different. Did you build some give/flex in the brackets on the doors? with the body being rubber mounted to the frame and the Carrier being mounted to the bumper/frame You might get some stress there. I had trouble with this on a Fj40 that I built even though it can not move very much it was enough to crack the body and carrier mount with the stress.

Re: Swingers

Yes. They are attached with heim joints that move freely.
