Closest I could find is something called a sex bolt.
SEX BOLT COMPONENTS - SOCKET DRIVE 82° FLAT HEAD 18-8SS - FEMALE

I searched a little on that term unsuccesfully, but didn't want to push my luck and get some strange kind of virus on my computer.

Sex bolts. I know sex bolts. Also mating screws. All different sizes and in SS to boot.

I have the rep that is selling them and he is looking into what the nut would cost.

Besides “sex bolt” it's also called a “binding post” but don't see them with a hex head. Might have more luck with an auto supply type of supplier.

FYI: Brian at SMB West reports:
I checked with our quality control person and one of our engineers who said that any exterior exposed hardware on the Penthouse tops is now stainless steel, and that we are using shoulder screws in the pivot arms of the penthouse top.

Progress!

I just sent you a PM for a set as well. I hope you still have some.

So these are obviously different than stock in that nuts will go on the inside instead of the outside. Is there any additional hardware we need for the inside or is that included?

P.S. I read the entire thread so I'm a little overwhelmed. Did I read somewhere in here that SMB once had a lifetime warranty on leaking tops?! Can I get them to replace my top for free? It's a 1992 SMB.

Most all is the same accept the handles that you use to pull the top down. They just get a nut. You might want to order a bag of the plastic covers that cover the nuts.

The only lifetime warranty I've ever heard of on the top was to the original purchaser direct from SMB. I don't know if that's hearsay or not since I bought my SMB used.

Well all the existing bolts now go from bottom up, so they would all need nuts and washers on the inside wouldn't they? Most can be covered by the black caps except for the latches and pull-handles where it looks like the washers that hold the black caps wouldn't fit.

Anyone wanna post a picture of how they've finished off the inside of the van with Gooseberry's custom top bolts?

Yea I'm definitely not the original owner. I guess it would be worth a shot calling to ask.
