Transmission pan and monitoring gauges

Being Ford refused to issue me an extended warrantee, I used the money to install a new larger transmission pan and a set of gauges to monitor transmission and exhaust gas temperatures plus a turbo charger boost gauge. I used Auto Meter Nexus system. The nice thing about this system is it’s expandable so I can add other gauges when I want to. It also stores information in the CPU that can be downloaded on a computer. I’m not real concerned about that and haven’t even read the instruction manual yet. You can set the color to red/white, blue, red, yellow, green, or purple. The gauges will light up red if it hits the adjustable warning level (or blue if red is selected). I am still using the scan gauge for other monitor functions. I had Zilstra's auto install everything as they do a lot of work for SMBW. The gauge pod is above the rearview mirror.

BD transmission pan.

I have end-of-the-warranty plans for a large tranny pan. 19,000 to go...

I was told that the transmission warrantee was only good to 30,000 miles, hence the pan and gauges. Please tell me I'm wrong. The way I look at it the more I monitor the better chance I have at not adding any damage due to over stress by me.

I thought the trans was warrenteed for 36,000 miles.

The 100,000 mile warranty is on the engine only.

yes Herb you are correct 36,000. I'm at 33k now. Too bad Ford wouldn't go the same as the motor....o-well.

I have the 75K extended. I don't know whether the tranny is covered to 75K or not. Guess I better check.

Yes, the transmission is covered under the 75,000 miles extended warranty. See my post under General/Technical entitled "Transmission Problems". On the other hand, problems like we had could have started earlier. I need to get a transmission temperature gauge installed on our van. I hate to drive to Fresno to have it installed and need to find a good transmission shop somewhere in the Bay Area...

I missed the extended warrantee by 2 weeks...bummer. I thought I had to wait until 30k to purchase it...I don't know why I thought that but by waiting caused me to loose out after Ford quit offering it hence the gauges.

Hey Dave, I just happened to catch your gauge cluster on the random image-izer and was suddenly inspired to spend some more money on my van.

Do you know if these gauges are connected via the obdII port, or are there more difficult wiring requirements?

Buji, Zilstra's did the install (not the best install ). The gauges are all electrical "Auto Meter Nexus" gauges and do not connect to the OB port under the steering wheel where my scan gauge plugs in. The system has a control unit that mounts under the dash and is expandable. Sorry but I'm not sure where it plugs in. I suspect there is a secondard port to hook up to the vehicle computer. SMB was not pleased with how they did the wiring using poor connections plus it was just plain messy. Randy at SMB cleaned it up. He said it looked like an easy install. Zilstra's usually does a good job...maybe I got the new guy???
