Vacuum leak? If the tank/filler/cap/fuel pump are not leak tight, you will get a CEL ( Check Engine Light).
You really need a code reader to know what the fault is so we can tell you what the problem might be.
I always suggest a ScanGauge ( http://www.scangauge.com/) as a code reader. It has so many other useful functions and it is cheaper than most code readers.

Re: uh oh...new 46 gallon tank..now what
nrl- i see your post from a year ago when you changed out your fuel tank. in 04 when i had my van built the guys at smb and transfer flow in chico said they didn't make a larger tank that would fit my van specifically because of the transfer case. i have the quigley 4x4 also. was yours an upgraded model? i should probably call transfer flow and check it out. its not really an issue for me as i like to stop every couple hundred miles anyways.

That doesn't make sense. The T-F fuel tank is listed as fitting 97-03 vans with Quigley 4x4.
http://www.transferflow.com/Ford_van_midship_tank.html
It is not listed as fitting 2wd vans, because the extra crossmember the supports the transfer case is used to support the front of the fuel tank.
In fact, the tank also fits later Ford vans with 4x4, but T-F doesn't list them as fitting - probably because of emissions concerns or testing.

Re: uh oh...new 46 gallon tank..now what
thanks mike. i'm going to have to revisit this installation. its something i wanted when i had the smb built in 04. all i can think is this is something they came up with after 05.
i will do some research and call trasfer flow.

I ordered a 97 Quigley TF tank from TF but didn't mention it was for my 96 Quigley but we found a 97 Ford fuel assembly unit that works with the 97 Transflow Quigley Tank.. we just gutted the actual 97 fuel pump on the assembly and replaced it with a 96 fuel pump and filter and added that check valve..
Other then that, nothing special or custom from them.. all working still.
