Re: Upgrade from Ford Factory Stereo; Speaker Location?

Quote:
I'm really pleased with the sound from the front door speakers but as mentioned by previous posters the rear speakers are difficult to hear when fully loaded on a trip. So, they really don't provide good fill while sitting in the front seat.
I also wasn't happy with the ability to hear the rear speakers when the van was loaded. I built a speaker box the mounts under the PH bed and put some two-way ADS speakers with cross-over I had laying around. These are great little speakers, but I don't seem to be getting the performance out of them I would expect based on past installations I had with them. I also put in an A/B speaker selector so now I can switch between the rear / side door speakers or the ADS in the new box for the "rear" speakers.

Other additions include a 10" dual coil ADS sub in a box behind my driver seat and a 6-channel ADS amp. Deck and all door speakers are Kenwoods from the original SMB "upgrade". Overall it sounds good, but can always be better!

Bumping this old thread to see if anyone knows where to order the plastic "A pillar triangles" in the front doors that many people have mounted their tweeters in? Mine somehow got a tab broken off of it and now flops around whenever I hit a bump.

I've spent an hour now on Google and can't find anything.

Try this link: Buy 2005 Ford E-150 Parts | FordParts.com

This is from Fordpart.com and described as "Door Mirror Cover" for a 2005 E150. As far as I can tell, the part is the same for MANY years of Econolines, probably all the way back to 1992, but check for your year just in case. The part call out # is 17K709 and available in Left and Right in the description. About $17 a pop +shipping.
Or try your local junkyard and save a few bucks.
Good luck.
