WARNING! Check Sportsmobile's wiring!!! Look what I found..

This the THE POWER WIRE for the pop-top lights (notice the wire stipping itself). Good thing I decided to re-do my headliner, or I wouldnt have noticed until.....

Just because I didnt pay a 100k for a new one, you'd think they would have SOME pride in their work.

This is the 2nd issue Ive had with their installation (first being loose/unstarted screws that mounts the top to the van). Since my first complaint, I somehow had trouble logging in under my old log0in name, hence a new one I had to make up.

Re: WARNING! Check Sportsmobile's wiring!!! Look what I fou

I moved the single post under TOUR4x4 to this account and deleted TOUR4x4. You can now change your email back if you would like, as it's not longer in use under TOUR4x4. Nothing wrong with the account that I could see, hopefully you won't have more problems.

I can't see exactly where that is, do you have a pic from further out so we know where to look? What's supposed to be there, grommet maybe? How many miles on the van?

Re: WARNING! Check Sportsmobile's wiring!!! Look what I fou

I had the top installed last year. Its the front penthouse light wire (10 gauge perhaps). The wire was (I think) supposed to go through that plastic grommet next to it. Upon further viewing, it looks like the installer didnt feel like snaking it through correctly (made like a S turn, poor initial placement of the plastic sleeve). I still can't believe the installer did this. I even made a point to TIP the guy 100 bucks! Never again, that's for sure...

The van has only 1000 or so miles on it since the top install last June (as visible in the pic). Judging by the wire's current condition, Im glad I didnt have more miles on it. It surely would have shorted out.

That would bother me too, and I would loose confidence in the things I can't see.

It's becoming more and more clear that the more research I do on this website I AM GLAD I'M BUILDING MY OWN !!!!

Aside from the wiring, what's up with the 7 self tapping screws coming through the roof in zig zag formation ? SWISS CHEESE !!!

Re: WARNING! Check Sportsmobile's wiring!!! Look what I fou

I hear ya with the all screws... Why do they need to protrude over an inch into the cab? Oh yea, not to mention my top is warped on the passenger-rear side, as with others on this board. They mailed me another latch (to make it latch at all 4 corners), but that means drilling more holes, patching the middle one etc...

Overall, I feel they should stop trying to sell you every aftermarket part while in the shop, and focus on installing each one correctly.. If I had a full interior install by them, Id have to go over with the fine-toother comb, just to make sure of any further blunders. I wouldnt be able to sleep, if I didnt...

They even charged me the full installed price for the awning, depite the fact that they didnt have brackets for me, and I had to take it home and install it myself, after their new brackets arrived.

If I had to do this all again, I wouldnt.. I would get a top from a junk yard and do it myself...

You should read about. Joey2Cool's propane tank installation!

Seriously, I think this is typical of the RV industry in general.
