Water Tank

Has anyone tried to reconfigure their water tank set up? I'd like to add a bigger tank & gain interior space. I am wondering if I should mount it where the spare goes. I carry a port-a-potty so there is no grey water. I do realize the draw back would be cold weather (freezing) & the chance of putting a hole in it but I don't climb rocks. What do you think?

Re: Water Tank

Oldfart3 has an excellent setup for additional water in his rear quarter panels. Do a search by author, he has a nice write up, and I suppose you could use it to eliminate the water tank.

Thanks, I'll do just that! I did try to do a search but between the Water & Tank I think that there was too many results to pull or something.

How much water storage are you looking for?

Re: Water Tank

Well, the existing tank looks to be pretty small, I would say that it is only about 10 gallons. I would know the exact size but sence I bought the unit used & it wasn't operational, I wasn't overly worried about it. I knew that I'd be addressing it in the future & it is getting to be that time. The guy I purchased it from apparently slamed on the brakes to avoid an accident, the tank was full, came loose & had emptied into the cabin. He was able to dry everthing w/o damage but I don't want this to happen agian. So...with all this all being said, I'm looking to swing a 20-25 gallon tank. It would be nice to gain some extra space on the interior & I don't do much winter camping, so freezing wouldn't be that big of deal. I take extra water on the exterior of the van as it is. If I have to mount on the interior then no big deal but if there is an option then I am willing to give it a look'in over!
Thanks Guys! Woot..................

Re: Water Tank

We have a 20 gallon tank under our gaucho, and it has worked great thusfar.
We do also have the capability to carry an additional 10 gallons on the rear bumper, but have not needed it yet.

Re: Water Tank

I have two 16 gallon tanks side by side under the couch (gaucho?) of an '08 RB 50. There's space between them for an amplifier, but they take up most of the space fore and aft except for some plumbing to the front.

Re: Water Tank

I'm with Greg. The easiest way to add water carrying capacity is out back. I think these blue plastic camp cans were around $5 each (maybe $10) from Wal-Mart. They survived the Baja trip, but the box didn't fare so well.

Re: Water Tank

i added a water tank (12 gallons) under the van (Extended body), in front of the spare tire. i put a pump in my bumper and can pump from my "spare" tank to the inside tank. for now, i need to connect the hose to fill the inside tank, but it's pretty easy. this is great because now i have inside water for winter and the extra tank for longer 3-season trips. the girls use a lot of water, especially if they shower. with the water heater, i figure i have close to 30 gallons now. i'll put pics in the gallery later. this is really a great system and it's basically 'stealth' in case some idiot would want to tamper with my water jugs while parked somewhere....
