I got OEM Ford glass for $150, and labor to install $150 from my windshield guy who does great work. He says the OEM glass is good on the vans. No issues.

Safelite charges me $185 for new glass (including upper tint) and installation.

Also, if you have Safelite do chip repairs, they will apply those charges to your next windshield.

I have heard some horror stories locally about the quality of Safelite's windshield installs. YMMV.

I'm on my 3rd Safelite windshield in my van, and have put another 3 windshields into my fleet rigs this year alone. All have been as-good as OE, with no visual distortions. FWIW - our Safelite rep did say they changed vendors about 2 years ago, for the better.

I did have one issue with one of my windshields. I drove up for skiing immediately after having it put in. It was heavy rain all the way up, and pretty darn cold up at the mountain. The rain which then froze ended up pushing the new glass out slightly from window frame. Safelite re-did the install (with another new windshield) without charging me. But now I know better than to take a wet windshield into freezing temps before its fully cured (which takes 24-hours).

Re: What are your latest opinions on replacing Ford windshie

To clarify what I meant by issues with Safelite installs, they had all been related to the quality of the install and prep and sealing, not the glass itself. Again may just be a local thing.

I've always used good quality independent guys who have been referred to me by friends, and OEM glass which they usually get at a discount, or a lot of times I supply the OEM glass myself and they install it.
