Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
New shoes.
I bought new A/T E-rated 265 70 R17's 2 yrs ago at Discount Tire. We put 14,000 miles on them. I recently rotated them and notice 3 of 4 had a crack around the tread. Discount snaps some photos and the next day called me to say they'd replace them. I had to buy the warranty again ($40ea) but even with that, they always seem to offer a solid customer experience.
Anyone else seen this problem? Or know what might be the cause?

Yikes. Did you notice the age of the tires (it's stamped on the sidewall; it's a code with year and week of manufacture, but can't remember what order). Looks like a lot of cracking for two year old tires.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
Nope, didnt notice date. I did google this tire spec and found no recalls or other instances of same. I typ run at 45psi and up it to 60psi with 4,000lbs trailer. Only one rear tire had the problem. Two from the front showed similar.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
The cracking kinda looks like age cracks to me, and it looks like maybe some chunking. A set of cracks running around the edge of the tread can also be a sign of overloading, or under inflating. You say they are E rated; if they are T/As max is 80lbs at 3200 or 3300 or so. I dunno how much your van weighs, but say 5k in the back, so 2500/tire would be in the 60lb range minimum. More obviously if you're heavier. If you ran those a lot at 45lbs at that weight it could thrash them; that would be for a weight of about 1800/tire. I never could find inflation tables for these tires, but they're not so different from others of that size.

just looking at the wear on the tire it is under inflated. The edges are almost gone and the center is almost new well not new but you get the point.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
Yeah, didn't even notice the uneven wear since I was focused on the cracks. Pretty dramatic.
Here's a 285, with about 5K:

Spent the entire day getting 5 days of Black Rock City playa dust out of my van and admiring my new refrigerator art compliments of my temporary Belgium neighbor and new friend, Stefaan ( http://www.strook.eu).

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?
Love the artwork. Just went to a hot rod show this weekend in Ventura, and I watched a couple of artists pinstriping various things. I stood there in awe and watched them free-hand paint with such steady hands.
