What did you do to your SMB today?

The trip to Baja in November necessitated a few repairs on the rig after returning home. For one, the larger sway bar that was installed a few years ago needed to be re-welded to the mount after it broke off.

Since I really liked how much better it felt off road without the sway bar connected, I decided this go around to have Boulder Off Road add disconnects. A new drag link end was also installed. Nice!

Other issues were a few leaks that had sprung up, the left front axle seal and the rear pinion. I had BOR replace both front inner axle seals, also installed an improved outer seal to help keep dust out.
The rear pinion seeping is another issue altogether, it could mean the bearings are going and have some play. There are 2 ways to address this, tear down the axle and replace all bearings and seals or get a full float. I’ve decided it’s time for a full float. BOR has sourced an E-series D60 axle for me that is currently torn down and at the blasters. It will be built up using all new gears, 35 spline chromoly axles cut to fit and a Detroit Truetrac. Looking forward to it!

How do those disconnects work?
Do you unscrew the nuts and take the link out? Or secure it to that upper pin maybe?

Ya, pull the lower pin and swivel the disconnect link up and secure it to the upper mount pin.

With all the stuff you carry, I think that's an excellent idea.

So I’m confused on this also. It looks like both ends of your drag links are bolts. So you unbolt it then swing it up and pin it? Am I missing something I don’t see a pin on the sway bar drag links in running position?

Garage
^^^ the bolt your seeing I'm guessing is the back of a stud. The pin likely goes through that stud to keep the bar in place. When swung up, that pin goes through the bushing to hold in in place while disconnected.

So that makes sense and what I would expect. The picture of the sway bar looked like 2 nuts and why I was confused.

Thank you,
Rob

Right, on mine, the upper stud is fixed, the lower stud stays in place where you see the bolt, on the other side is the pin you pull to slide the end link off and then pivot it up to the other stud mounted above to hold it up and out of the way when disconnected. Hope that makes sense.....
