Just installed a third 100w Renogy solar panel on the roof. Need it for all the time...most of the time... we camp in all or partial shade.

Mine is just a simple push button on the dash that is supposed to manually connect the batteries when pushed. Don't know what is typical.

Actually what I ddid not do

Several years ago I purchased an Overland Solar 150 watt three panel foldable portable solar system. During the past month or so I figured out how to mount it on my Thule roof rack using aluminum angle.

Yesterday I started pulling the unneeded items off the panels and drilling the necessary mounting holes in it. Was going to finish it this morning before it got to hot.

Last night I had a dream. In the dream it was pointed out that most of the trips we do are touring, where we are driving every day. The solar panels would be useless because the alternator would be charging the batteries by the time we got to our next camp. I would be doing all this modification work for nothing. The panel would also add weight to the roof and increase the wind drag on the rig.

Thinking about the dream this morning I realized we never carry the panels when touring. We only bring them when we are planning on staying for multiple days in one spot, which is about once a year. So the project got canceled.

Can always mount it later if we find we need it.

This is great, Larrie! It makes me happy when I can figure out how not to do unnecessary work. Great dream!

Traction Board Mount

We use to carry our traction boards and shovel on the roof rack. It was a pain to climb up and get them. Looked at different mounting systems for them and ended up making my own. There is no movement when on rough roads.

Cut a round piece of 1/2” plywood with top and bottom slots. Added mounting bolts and a couple of mounts for a shovel and an axe.

The plywood fits tight against the tire.

And is held in place by 2 inch ratchet strap.

Had a chance to try out my new "Coffee table" - made to memorialize my morning routine...Coffee in the morning is a ritual embraced - and the percolating sound from the propane Coleman just compliments the aroma. (Works great too for the Stove or as the "Bar")
