Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Been a busy couple of weeks.

- installed UJOINT rear spacers
- installed 16" Mojave's and E rated BFGs
- cleaned out the kitchen/fridge
- test fired the propane water heater and furnace (ordered new anode for water heater, and new burner/orifice, flame was not super even)
- cleaned front half of PH top seal and roof where it mates
- fixed shower leak
- fixed water pump not cycling off (bled air out of hot side)
- cleaned and conditioned all rubber gaskets on opening windows
- super glued the crack in the Porta Potti lid
- installed cheap RV refrigerator thermometer
- replaced missing knobs on window shades

I'm not a 4 x 4'er, so this question I know may seem stupid.
But, what is a Bushwacker? I see the term referred to a lot on this forum

It is a brand of fender flare.

(It is an Australian slang term.)

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Not exactly stuff I did today, but over the last few months:

- I used my van! Death Valley trip with a few friends. Still need to post up some photos.
- Repacked the front wheel bearings myself (finally was time to learn how). It wasn't too bad of a job. Replaced bearings and races on the passenger side since they were a little (very little) scored.
- Front brake job while I had the hubs off. Used PowerStop slotted rotors and pads. Learned a few things on the way that I plan to post up when I get time. Biggest thing was having to drill out the wheel stud holes.

A big thanks to Badger for his write up on re-packing the front bearings!

I can't forget installing the Door Talon! Have I mentioned what a great name that is? (where's my royalty checks?) ... and also a great product. How have I lived without it for so long.

Now I need to find time to use the van more!

Later -
Phil

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

- replaced anode on hot water heater, eesh think it hadn't ever been touched. A bunch of porcelain flakes came out, will need to replace water heater. Also leaks slightly under pressure. I used gobs of Teflon so I think there is a crack in the tank fitting....
- finished cleaning and conditioning PH gasket
- unpacked my shiny new Aluminess bumpers from their crate

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

- replaced air filter element
- didn't replace dip stick tube, it seems seized into block
- noticed I have a broken exhaust manifold stud, LH rear lower
- removed a seized electric cooling fan (Starcool related?) from front of rad
- removed a bunch of weird wires tapped into my front turn signals, may have been clearance markers on old bumper
- emptied Porta Potti
- drilled out holes for lock pins on swing arms on rear Aluminess
- replaced temporary hinge bolt for rear Aluminess strap with a 3/8" SS shoulder bolt (had been drilled out to 3/8 for Reunel strap)

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Installed a stiffening bracket for the charger mounting partition. Original SMB West installed verticle particle board with L shaped brackets attaching it to the floor allowed too much vibration for sensitive electronics gear. SMB was kind enough to weld a bracket and ship it to me. I had to drill the bracket screw holes bigger since the screws would not freely drop through them. Then I marked and pre-drilled screw starter holes in the mounting partition and gaucho couch wall for bracket install. Even though it only cleared to one side of the partition along the top for install, it along with the original floor mounted L brackets, eliminated almost all the loosy-goosy motion (and thus most of the vibration - the big stuff anyhow). Photos to come...

Did you have any electronics fail as a result of the old bracket?

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Gave Jiminy a but lift

Ok the ride is 1000 time better and I thought it was good before. 75 on a bumpy freeway and the coffe cups in the sink dont rattle( well I cant hear them anyway). much more stable side to side when pulling out of driveways.

Jeff said it will sag about 1/2 a inch it should be perfect once it does.

now you all want pictures.

before

after
