Picked up a used Pelican 1650 case yesterday. Today, Rallypanam and I mounted it to my spare tire carrier. Finally some outside storage…

That's sweet, I never would have thought of using a pelican case but it's the perfect case to use!

Yeah, it should work out nicely. We used plenty of silicone around each bolt so it should still be completely waterproof. Now I just need to figure out a way to put a shelf in there without drilling any more holes. After moving the spare tire underneath the van, I knew I didn't want to remove the rack, fix all the holes in the door, prime, paint, etc. And, I needed some outside storage anyway so this is the solution I came up with

Plastic welder? Maybe weld in some shelf supports like a fridge has?

What size tires are you running?

Yeah plasti-weld might work for shelf supports. Could also use various sized stackable plastic containers, once I figure out exactly what I'll be storing in there. Already got one fridge-style metal shelf to try out in there that has legs. Scratch one thing off the list, add three more haha.

I'm running 285/75-16's.

Stackable shelves could work good too.

So do you not have a full size spare or did you do something to be able to squeeze it up under the van?

There's two little pieces of metal that, I guess, are meant to guide the stock size spare in to position and keep it from moving around. Rallypanam grinded them off and the full size spare barely fits now.

NICE!! If I didnt have a 55 gallon gas tank going in that spot then I would totally do that.

Yeah Josh, it worked out great. A mutual friend of ours did this on his van and I checked it out when we were all camping. He had a different hitch receiver though so I wasn't 100% sure it would work. As you can see here, there's no clearance at all on mine. That's Rallypanam fine tuning the grinding with the spare partially lowered...

After a buzz/rattle finally got to me, I decided to go looking for the cause. I finally pulled the dog house and found a plastic box over the engine was off a rubber mount. Problem fixed and I have piece in the cabin again.

I also replaced the awning's plastic end caps with new ones. I had to order some for my Casita so I ordered extra for the van. Looks better now.
