'08 headlight question...

Hey guys, our '08 e-350 has the base model square halogen headlights with the black plastic shroud that you see on most cargo/service vans. I'm wondering how much work would go into swapping them out to the one piece headlights that the passenger vans come with? I found a used one on Craigslist. All the mounting points and the turn signals are the same but the main headlamp connector is not. Is it a matter of cutting the old one off and adding the new connector or is there more to it?

Thanks,
Allen

Re: '08 headlight question...

I was looking into doing this swap as well, should be pretty straight forward and easy. Changed my mind when I took a rock through the original sealed beam headlights, and it was only $12 to replace. The anticipated price of replacing one of the nicer headlight units scared me away from this conversion... For now anyways.

Keep us up to date if you decide to do this, it would be interesting to hear if there are any problems.

Re: '08 headlight question...

Any idea if the Ford one-piece headlights work any better or worse than the generic rectangular ones?

Allen,

You're wanting to replace this...

with this...

Correct?

What is the price of the lights you found on CL? Have you priced new ones?

Cheers,
Brent

That's exactly what I wanna do. I haven't checked what they cost new but I'm pretty sure they're at least $250-300. I found the passenger side headlight on Craigslist for a mere $40. The only thing wrong with it was that a plastic pin that help lines it up for mounting was broken so it doesn't affect functionality. I haven't tried looking for the driver side yet because I want to make sure what else needs to be done first. Have you checked on pricing? I knew I wasn't the only one who wanted to do this.

Re: '08 headlight question...

Actually, no, I have the one-piece headlights already (also in an '08). CascadeWalnut's comment about replacement made me nervous, though. Hmm, 12 bucks vs. 250 bucks!

Maybe if you were closer, we could do a swap.

I wouldn't mind the black grill, but I think I'll stick with the one-piece headlights. I keep meaning to research headlight protection film. Should do it soon - I got a nice chip in the windshield on the way to the ski hill last weekend.

Lemme know if you change your mind Brent. I'll take care of the shipping. Haha
