Re: ABS Light On

Reminds me of the old Unix Fortune:
Quote:
Brian Kernighan has an automobile which he helped design.
Unlike most automobiles, it has neither speedometer, nor gas gauge, nor
any of the numerous idiot lights which plague the modern driver.
Rather, if the driver makes any mistake, a giant "?" lights up in the
center of the dashboard. "The experienced driver", he says, "will
usually know what's wrong."

Switchfoot,

Do you have a Scanguage? That was the major reason we bought a scan gauge for our rig. If the Check engine light goes on, you can determine the cause of it. I also had the same experience on a trip.

Surfgeek:

I haven't bought a Scangauge yet as I can't decide if I want that or an MSD Dashhawk that will also provide EGT readings. I think I prefer the Dashhawk, but the Scangauge is cheaper and smaller.

It's the famous "ABS" light issue.. related to the ABS sensors.
There is two in the front, one near the right brake calipers/ brake shield, and one on the left. Their magnetic or something and get dirty..
The back sensor is on top of the axle, right above the diff cover..

In my case, the one in the back was of an older design and a replacement was a new improved "fixed" sensor.

Some people have replaced all of them and it still does it so it's up to you if you care about the yellow light. If you don't care, put black tape over the yellow light.

Now if anything lights up RED. Like RED Brake, Engine.. then that's 911.

If the brake fluid is low the "BRAKE" light will come on. It's the same light as when you apply the parking brake. My pedal felt fine and I thought I had a problem with the parking brake. My fluid was low which can be bad news, much worse than the ABS light. You would think the parking brake warning lamp would be a different light.

Re: ABS Light On

When our ABS light comes on and does not reset itself on restart, I found that if I unplug the ABS wiring harness located under the passenger seat and then reconnect the plug it makes the light go off. Not sure why but those with the ABS light stuck on you might give it a try.

Re: ABS Light On

Ours came on again when we were offroad in BBRSP.... and it was off the next time I looked. No long term issues, no short term issues.

Re: ABS Light On

My ABS light came on after a hard brake to avoid an accident. It too reset. Maybe there are different reasons for going off and some simply won't reset for safety purposes or a way to get you back to the dealer

Re: ABS Light On

Happened to me once after the van had been sitting a while. I ended up pulling a grade with the peddle buried and the light went out as a result. Hasn't come back on. Guessing it got a low vac reading or something and by putting the coals to it, it upped the vac and took care of the fault.
