Anyone install a Baja540?

I have my Lowrance Baja 540c from my last rig and i want to install it in the SMB..... there's like no place for it. I guess the only place i see is above in the ceiling between the visors...

Anyone mount a big GPS unit in their rig??

We have a 4.5"x7.5" (outside dimensions) early Pioneer GPS screen mounted to the underside of the "above windshield" storage area and it works well. Our CB is mounted in the storage area in the center section and the GPS screen is installed directly under the CB. In this location, it hangs down to where it slightly obstructs the rear view mirror but I don't use that mirror anyway since stowage behind the sofa obstructs the view out the rear windows.

We've got the Baja 540 and I had a hard time trying to decide on its mounting location too. Thot long and hard about sticking it up between the visors, but figured I'd just hit my head on it too often and it was more visable from the outside. I ended up putting it on the center console as you can see from the photos.

Looking from the back.

From the drivers seat.

Mounting

I like the location so far and it doesn't block any of the vents. I lose one cup holder, but there are three others and I can still put small stuff in the semi covered one.
Whatever, just what I did. Now if they only had maps for Baja....

I find that it's nice to have my GPS/maps as close to my line of sight as possible so I don't have to move my eyes off the road.

Could the Baja 540 be installed with the mounting bracket screwed in here?

(Oh, and why is it called the Baja 540 if it doesn't have maps for Baja???)

Scatter, i was thinking about that location too... but the head unit is a touch screen so that might be a little hard to deal with... reaching over the gps all the time.

As far as mounting it on the dash... it's a heavy unit... i think it might rip out on wash board roads.

I have the map card from LEI and it works awesome. Very very detailed, and there hasn't been one trail we've been on that it didn't know. The baja comes with maps.. but not super detailed.

Scatter, where did you mount your antenna? I was thinking front bumper.

I've been kicking around the idea of a 540C for a while now too as I could run it in my buggy and my SMB. Scatter's mounting location looks spot-on. However, you'll have to hold your 1 ltr Diet Coke in your crotch.
