Anyone using a Smart Plug for shore power?

Seems like a better cord all around, but could see it as one of those things that solves a problem that doesn't exist.

Awesome - that goes along with my experience using connectors like that with industrial equipment.

Will request SMB uses the Smart plug for our Sprinter build.

I installed a smart plug on my boat after finding the 30a twist lock partly melted, but discovered that I never unplug it, so it could have been hard wired instead. My van is hardwired, the cord is stored behind a small plastic door, so there is no danger of an inlet plug melting. I simply open the door and pull out the cord as needed. If you have a similar set up, hardwiring makes sense, but if you need to be able to remove the cord after each use, the Smartplug is a great improvement.

Hi. While I am not affiliated with smart plug, I use to work with one of the co owners of the company. We worked together on university of Alaska's research ship. He was the chief engineer. Really smart guy.

He brought us some smart plugs to use for our tender's battery charger and our life boat block heaters . They are really nice products and really well made. They are more expensive but they will last forever and highly weather resistant. Ours are constantly getting spray seawater and they show no signs of corrosion or damage.

So yea they're really nice but yea they are a little expensive. He always talked about how they're supposed to be much safer and better at minimizing potential fire damage than a regular plug. Something about the electronics built into the plug
