Back-Up Camera Lighted Switch Gets Hot
I have a backup camera installed on my Sportsmobile. I added a switch to turn the camera on whenever I want instead of when I'm in reverse. The switch has a little light inside of it, and whenever I leave it on for more then a couple of minutes, the switch becomes really hot. It seems to be the light that gets hot, not the switch. It's the same size that the ones that Sportsmobile puts in (The circular ones). The reason why I got this new switch was for a light to come on so I know that the switch is on, because Sportsmobile's switches do not have a light in the switch. I also have that same overheating switch for my top back-up lights (AUX lights). It's the same AMPs as the Sportsmobile switches, so it seems to be only the light. I need a switch with a LED light, but can not find one. HELP! Do any of you know where I can get the switch I need? Thanks.

Re: Back-Up Camera Lighted Switch Gets Hot
Sounds to me like you have the wiring incorrect. Many switches you can put the load through the LED by mistake and this will make the switch really hot. You should have 3 legs to the switch.
#1 power in
#2 power out
#3 ground for LED
If you have #2 and #3 mixed up, everything works but the load goes through the LED making the switch super hot.

Re: Back-Up Camera Lighted Switch Gets Hot
SheepShagger,
It is wired just like you said. I double checked it, and there really is no other way to wire it. It seems to me the problem is, the light bulb is NOT an LED, and that is why it gets hot. Where can I get a switch that the bulb is an LED bulb? I've tried Marvac Electronics, Autozone, and Ace Hardware.
Does anyone know of an online store that sells switches with LED lights?

Re: Back-Up Camera Lighted Switch Gets Hot
http://www.digikey.com/ will have the switch, but it's a bitch to find stuff on that site and 1/2 the things are just codes so you'll need to search else ware for pic's. But I'm sure if you spend enough time on that site you'll find what you need.
Send a pic and I may be able to help you locate something.

For lighted switches I've used both www.wiringproducts.com and Del City.

???
I have always bought them locally
The Autozone, PepBoys, and Kragen up here carry them. Radio Shack also "sometimes" has them. I looked in my junk box and found one you can have if you want (send me a PM). Looks like it has an amber led.

Re: Back-Up Camera Lighted Switch Gets Hot
This is the switch that I have and I want it in LED so I can see the light better. It is the same size (15/16 inches) as Charlie56's light and I did find it at Auto zone but I want a bigger LED light. Does it exist?

PS I am excited-I finally am able to post a picture like below

Re: Back-Up Camera Lighted Switch Gets Hot
Greg,
The LED switch is the one with the dot light. The others are not LED and will get hot if left on.
I gave up on finding a bright LED switch but I did find a PINK LED switch (even if it is only a dot light) that I am getting. http://www.oznium.com/rocker-switch
every one for your help.

Re: Back-Up Camera Lighted Switch Gets Hot
Angel
Check out this site. http://www.rallylights.com/SearchResult ... egoryID=56
They have both led and incadescent switches available. The led ones (middle left side of page) have a lot smaller light but it may work for you. They come in three colors.
These guys have been very helpfull answering questions for me over the years. Ray the guy that builds the custom wiring harnesses for all their applications is very knowledgeble. Two days ago he took the time to educate me on why some relays have internal diodes and resistors. It had nothing to do with my application I was just curious.
If anyone needs to buy lights or upgrade bulbs for their fogs or drivers this is the place to go.
I give this site an A+ for customer service.
No connection other than a satisfied customer.
