Battery Charger/Power supply - not working

I have been noticing that my deep cell battery is not charging when my vehicle is plugged into my house. I tested my 45amp installed battery charger/power supply by removing it and plugging it directly to another battery that was low and it began charging. When I connected back into the SMB to the ground then the isolator, it does not charge that low battery.

Solutions? I found out its a TODD ENGINEERING 45amp model.

Re: Battery Charger/Power supply - not working

Are all the AC breakers on?

Is AC getting to the charger?

Is there AC at the 120 Plug? Some vans have had issues with ground fault outlets not powering the van.

Re: Battery Charger/Power supply - not working

Also how low is your house battery? I've had problems before where the house battery (and the starter batteries) is low enough that the shore power charger won't start charging it.

My solution was to drive until the separator connected (so the house battery was getting juice from the alternator) and then plugging into shore power with the van running- basically tricking the system into thinking there is enough voltage to start charging.

A less ham-fisted method would be to hook a trickle charger up and bring the battery up to charge with that, then restore the shore power charger and see if it properly charges/maintains the battery from that point.

Not sure how you're connecting this - your battery charger shouldn't be hooked to the isolator, but it may be that we're each using different terms. On the DC side, it should have two fat wires going directly to the battery (positive and negative). On the AC side, it sounds like it has a regular three-prong plug. Try plugging something known to work into that same receptacle, to make sure there's power at the plug.

Cheers,
Mike.
