Battery Isolators

Howdy!! I'am in the middle of my build and the House, Van battery isolater question is in the design stage. I have been reading to much info on this so I just bought a Blue Sea "BatteryLink" automatic charging relay, with auxilary battery priority # 7611,,and hope it works like there web-site sates.. It is designed to handel 120amp alt output, witch should handel a 7.3 PS diesel stock alternator. It is a new model. Does anyone have any input on this "New Isolator" ..... I will post some photos and let you know if its the anser to the Battery Managment Question.......Brad

Re: Battery Isolators

Just at a glance it should be OK for a charge relay. But just understand it's only rated at 120A which is fine for charging but kinda light for jump starting or other heavy amp draw items. I actually don't think that is too much of an issue because even though my 7622 is rated for 500A continuous, if I did try to pull that amount for any length of time I'd melt out my bus wire. The size wire I have is for an assist start just long enough to get the engine to crank over. Very few run 1/O or greater between chassis battery and the house system. If my house system is very low (which rare because I stay above 50%) I watch my amp draw while running the engine and using something like the microwave. Even then I only pull about 80 or so amps.

Re: Battery Isolators

The intermittent rating, which they list as (5 min ) is 210 amps. Interesting there web site says "•Largest battery bank cannot exceed Group 27"

The features are pretty standard.

Re: Battery Isolators

Just an opinion but am with Dave. I went with the 500amp relay just to be a little safer to cover the draw of a winch and air compressor. I also have the remote switch up in the cabin which is a nice feature although I don't understand why Blue-sea went with a red LED to indicate the system is working. Go figure.

My guess is the contact rating is low and that's probably because the overall amp rating is low. Why over build and add higher MFG costs. Like Charlie points out, if the unit switches with heavier loads the company wants you to not exceed the rating. It's probably just a precaution...most users with a huge battery or large banks have them for a reason and usually that is to work with heavier loads.
