CB Install, where to get power?

Pulled the CB and overhead console, the house power above (big red and white wire) are attached to the Fantastic Fan and the CB. The problem is the CB has had really dirty power and I've had a lot of problems. If it's not the house line or the fantastic fan, then it's the wire extension... looks like lamp cord, not regular automotive wire.

So- I either need to figure out which part is the problem (fantastic fan, lamp cord, house power itself) or just run a fresh power source up for the CB. Is there a good source I can tap into, that is relatively easy to get to one of the A pillars?

Is there a way to test the power/eliminate something or clean it to get the CB fresh power?

Re: CB Install, where to get power?

I ran power up from the driver's kick-panel to the area right by the driver's visor, for the backup camera (cheapie Costco) that I use to hookup the trailer by myself. Can't remember where I sourced it, but I went up the A-pillar.

Re: CB Install, where to get power?

Always run a CB straight to the battery (of course fused).. or else you'll get a bunch of interference.
I would run all new 12 awg wire and you'll be good. While im in there , i'd shrink tube (or at least wrap them with electrical tape) the PO's connectors too.

CB is one of the few instances where tapping straight off the battery is correct. And don't worry about it draining your battery.. it won't. Draws like nothing.

Re: CB Install, where to get power?

As mentioned in my recent post regarding installing a new backup camera and GPS in the overhead console area, I pulled power off the SMB accessory wiring behind the kick panel. Test the wiring with a volt meter and then use suitcase connectors to tap into it and then run the wiring up the pillar with 16 gauge stranded. On our SMB, the factory pulled power for their stuff from the trailer connector and thus there is a lot of power available....
