The Trombetta DC-Contactor used in the surepower 1315-200 or 1314=200 can handle a inductive or capacitive load of 225 amps. It can handle 300 amps for 60 seconds and 400 amps for 30 seconds. The inrush current is rated at 600 amps.

I believe the starter normal load current for my V10 is 130-220 amps. Maximum load is 800 amps.

I wouldn't worry about a gas engine. A diesel engine is much harder to start especially when very cold.

No, I got the message---with the 1314-200 just hold down the start button to get some juice from the house batteries into the engine batteries, release the button and start the engine. And remember, I did have a dead 1315-200, and that connects the batteries whenever the house batteries exceed 13.2 volts. So the "death scenario" daveb described could happen with dead engine batteries and trying to start the engine at a time your solar system is happily charging the house batteries.
