Double Honda 2000 noise?

Am wondering if I buy 2 Honda eu2000 generators and sometimes run them connected together, is the noise of the two running together twice as loud as one running alone? Would a single unit (4000) with approx same db rating as the 2000 be a lot quieter that dual 2000's? I don't have any experience with them. Thanks, Stosh

I doubt twice, but also the Honda 2000 is super quiet, at least the one I heard. It really depends on how loud the 4000 is- I've heard genny's in campgrounds that would put 10 Honda's to shame.

That said, I wouldn't think noise would be anywhere near the deciding factor... can you even PUT two 2000s together to make an equivalent 4000?

EM3800S = 71dB @ rated load
EM3800SXA= 71dB @ rated load
EB3800XA = 71dB @ Rated Load

EU2000iA (Main unit) = 59 dB @ rated load
EU2000iA (Companion unit) = 59 dB @ rated load

EU6500iSA = 60 dB @ rated load

Linking the two EU2000's will not double the volume. It may sound louder but it is more like two radios tuned to the same station at the same volume.

If you need more power and have the room the EU6500iSA sounds like a better deal.

The way I understand it, every 10 dB is 10x the sound. And, 10x the sound is perceived by the human ear as about twice as loud. So going from 60 to 70 dB seems twice as loud.

Doubling the sound (2x) is an increase of only about 3 dB -- so it sounds way less than twice as loud.

Two EU2000iA generators (59 dB each) would therefore produce a total of 62 dB of sound.

Therefore, a pair of EU2000 generators (62 dB) would sound almost half as loud as a single EM3800 generator (71 dB).

Your numerical description looks about right. I have a set of two and the pair are definitely noiser than one. Also it depends who is hearting the noise. For example if I place both on the driver side of the van several feet away with the exhausts pointing away from the van, they are very quiet even at night. The reverse obviously applies and while the noise is not intolerable its cetainly then much greater than a Class A.
