E 350 airbag disconnect

I have unplugged the underseat wiring connection to stop the 5 chime sounder . This now brings up a dash warning light for the airbags. Unsure if this really could control the airbag operation or just a seatbelt chime warning light. aNYONE HAVE THIS EXPERIENCE? Solutions to quiet the 5 chime gong appreciated.

Re: E 350 airbag disconnect

It could turn off the airbag. Some vehicles have 'Seat Occupied' sensor. If unoccupied, no airbag.

Don't know if you saw it Patrick, but I replied to your other post re the chime. Just cut the black wire with the pink stripe coming out of the ignition switch where it goes into a loom. This is under the steering column right behind the steering wheel. Ya have to remove three screws and unscrew the steering wheel tilt lever to get the cover off.

Yes it turns off the airbag. The sensor senses if the seat is occupied s.t. the seatbelt retractor can fire, pulling you away from the airbag. If the wires are disconnected (happened to me) the airbag won't go off. I think you have to disconnect the batteries for several minutes to reset. SMB Austin fixed mine after several failed attempts by the dealership to get the airbag light off.

Re: E 350 airbag disconnect

On my 06 you can just disable the chime on the seatbelt without causing the airbag light to come on and also keep the airbag operational. Ford didn't change much in the wiring over the years so I'm sure this it the same for many years. But there is also no censor in either driver or passenger seat on my van, so that seems a bit different to Jay's van.

Just disconnecting the 2pin, 4 pin harness (or 6 pin) under the seat, will cause the airbag light to come on. There are a bunch of connectors under the seat. There is a 2 pin connector just on the drivers seat that's located next to where the female seatbelt clasp bolts to the seat frame. These wires have no other use than to detect when the seatbelt is plugged into it and make the chime go off if the ignition it on, they have nothing to do with the airbag. Unplug that connector, or if you are lazy you can simply cut the wires when the exit the seat and enter the female seatbelt clasp as it's a N/C circuit.

Here is a generic Ford drivers seatbelt tensioner.

There are 2 connectors,
1 is yellow and mounted to the underside of the seat, that is the seatbelt pre-tensioner charge. Don't unplug that.
On my van the other is white (not black as in that pic) and that simply detects if the seatbelt is plugged in. That one is mounted to the pre-tensioner charge. (The tube with the yellow sticker on it)

I always figured that would earn you a seatbelt light. N/C is what in longhand?

Mine comes unplugged all the time and usually happens when I rotate the seat. Forget the dealer it is an easy fix. Plug wires back in all the way... they only go in one way. Turn off ignition and wait a few and then restart..... dashboard light should be off. This happens to me at least once a month.

Yahooooo......got it! Thanks Sheepshagger, that was just the tip I needed, I have been annoyed by that gong since day 1. I AM a seatbelt believer and user, I just don't need that kind of a wake up call! Thanks

Your manual also has instructions of disabling it, without disconnecting any wires. It a combination of turing the key and pressing the seatbelt latch.
