Re: Frame mounted battery boxes ( OE for Econoline )

Double check what 3" below the frame rail looks like for ground clearance. Not too bad if 4wd and a bit of lift. Starts to look a bit different with 2wd. Not sure what you have.

Ground clearance is the reason I went with the 2 x 31's, 210Ah total capacity like/close to the 4D (some have 225Ah) but the 31's fit up higher in the space between the frame and body.

Since you are opening up a custom box/mount possiblity: if you have an EB, you can go with 2 x 175Ah AGM's, (350 Ah) and mount them to and ahead of the frame cross member behind the differential, if nothing else is there or going in there. ( there is actually room for three of them if you want to go crazy).

Re: Frame mounted battery boxes ( OE for Econoline )

1der Mike is doing my build out, we brainstorm a lot with the battery boxes and I trust in his judgment. Mine is Quigley with Agile RIP kit and Ramsey will do fitment work to run 35's hence I compromised the under hang . Heck, it's still is higher than the quigley cheesy steps that the rig came with originally until Mike got me the slider steps.

Tien, yes I know. Mike is really good. For your situation with Quigley 3+ inch stock lift plus another 2 inches from the tires your situation is fine.

But for a 2wd van, or lower/no lift 4wd conversions, there is not much ground clearance to give away and, in that case, a few inches can be a big chunk of what little exists.

Re: Frame mounted battery boxes ( OE for Econoline )

Thank you for the pictures and information.
Out of curiosity how tall are the boxes you made for the batteries?

The height of the box is approximately 10.3" about one inch higher than the height dimension of the Lifeline 4D.

Re: Frame mounted battery boxes ( OE for Econoline )

Wow, two 4D batteries seems like a lot of capacity (400ah?). I'm getting by with 100ah at the moment and am considering doubling that, but am really not sure it's worth the work of running wire and the added weight.

What are you planning on running with these?

FWIW, I do have 350w of solar and am not shy of idling the van if I do something that draws big power (running air compressors mostly at this point, the fridge, lights and stereo do fine, though I just bought a microwave). I'll see if the microwave changes things, but so far I don't feel like it's worth it for me.

I do have one of the stock battery boxes sitting in my garage, but at the moment it's more likely to end up on the van with something other than a battery in it.

Re: Frame mounted battery boxes ( OE for Econoline )

Plan is to run a small microwave (wifey item) and a micro N'Espresso machine for me. In addition, I will be upgrading to a high output alternator to ensure that the batteries will be happy after getting my jolt. I am still in the process of deciding on solar panels.

I also will have my stereo system amps and electronics entertainment run off the house batteries.

Let's see how all this will work out.
