Re: Get the LED in.

I found the Peterson surface mounted LED lights surfing around on line. They solved my issue of the spare tire covereing the driver side tail light. Being surface mounted, they are easy to install. I have them mounted vertically, about mid way up the windows in the rear doors. I'll try to post up a photo when I get a minute.

Hopefully here is a photo of my tail lights. These are surface mounted and are pretty bright. I like them up high, so snow does not cover them in a blizzard. They do braking, directional, and four way flashers. No white reverse. They work great and have been on for 4 years now.

Man, your tire completely covers the driver taillight. Nice and well put mod.

Re: Get the LED in.

When we first purchased the van, pre owned, it was 2 wheel drive. We had it converted to 4 wheel drive and in the process we went from 29 inch OD tires to 34 inch OD tires. With the larger tire it covered the driver side tail light. It bothered me, especially when we drove it in a snow storm or after dark. I looked for quite a while and eventually found these tail lights. Most of the lights are recessed mounted and these were surface mounted. Only had to drill a small hole in the body. They have worked out great. They don't look bad and are pretty bright.

Re: Get the LED in.

How did you wire them up? Just splice to the stock lights?

Yes. A friend of mine has a small automotive shop in Reno and specializes in electrical issues with cars, trucks, motorhomes, etc. He installed the tail lights at the same time that I had him install a remote starter for the Sportsmobile. He said the tail lights were simple, as was the remote starter.
