Groaning fridge

Our electric refrigeration in our 02 Ford Sportsmobile is very noisy.
It hums loudly and that's OK, but it also groans weirdly at intervals.
It's like a low-pitch then a high-pitch groan. Is the fan going out?
Thanks,
Pete

I have no idea but my home fridge has made a horrible groaning noise for almost twenty years. Mrs AT keeps hoping it will die, but so far it works fine.

Maybe pull it out of the cabinet and check the fan for obstructions and clean the coils?

Lots of threads on fridge removal and modifications:

That doesn't only happen when you're sleeping, does it Jeff?

If it's a Norcold some of them just rattle and hum.

It sounds like one of the fans is losing a bearing (or more likely sleeve - few of these fans are actually ball bearing based).

If it's like my Norcold, the fans are fairly standard 24V 120mm fans (not 12V as you might expect - the fridge power supply accepts either 120VAC, 240VAC, 12VDC, or 24VDC and makes 24VDC for the system to run on). Open it up and look at the fans -they should have the specs printed on them. Go to Digikey (digikey.com), Mouser (mouser.com), or some other place and order a new fan. As a temporary work-around, if you remove the label on the fan, there should be a small rubber plug that you can remove to gain access to the bearing - put a couple of drops of sewing machine oil (in a pinch: get a drop of automatic transmission fluid from the steering dipstick) - DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE WD-40. It is NOT a lubricant, it is a water displacing cleaning agent and will REMOVE what little lubrication there is on the bearing - it will run for a few days then die. Put the plug back in and you should be able to run for a few months - enough to order a new fan.
