Hellas not working, is there a fuse or any other tips?

The hella driving lights that are located inside the lower portion of my front aluminess have stopped working. The diode on the internal light switch does not illuminate when I turn them on.

Of all the aux lights I have on the rig, these are the ones I use most often. They are ideal for spotting deer on the highway at night.

I pulled the panel under the steering wheel and checked the connections on the back of the switch and all looks OK.

Is there a fuse somewhere that controls these lights I can check, or some other connector elsewhere that is prone to failure?

I'm not the most technically savvy SMB owner, but I'd sure like to fix this myself if possible.

Thanks
Rob

Re: Hellas not working, is there a fuse or any other tips?

Rob-

I was just reading up on the wiring diagram as I plan to install my Hellas in my bumper today. Yes, there are two inline fuses in the wiring harness, one on the teal wire running from the top of the switch to the hot wire on the high beams, and one on the red wire running from the relay (says 'Hella' on top).

I hope I read that right and I hope that helps. If you need me to scan the wiring diagram and send to you, please let me know.

Best-
Steve

Thanks Steve,
Are these two fuses behind the switch panel inside the van, or under the hood? I've located a cluster of fuses inside that may be for the lights, but none of them are labeled. I've looked around under the front bumper but can't spot anything that looks promising.

They should be under the hood. The relay should be screwed into the firewall somewhere and you should be able to trace back from one of the hi-beams to find the fuse in the teal wire. Let me know how it goes.

Re: Hellas not working, is there a fuse or any other tips?

Rob,

For the fog lights, SMB typically used a 15 amp inline ATC type fuse located under the dash on the drivers side, between the knee panel and factory Ford fuse block. The fuse holder was most often red in color, but could be black, and usually had a cover.

The power source was typically constant from the starting battery, via the Power Distribution Box under the hood. I can't remember which fuse number, but it was a 40amp "maxi" ATC type. If this fuse is bad, you probably have some other 12 volt items on the same circuit that aren't working either.

Thanks very much John.

I will be checking the fuses and other connections this weekend. So far, I'm not aware of any other 12v items that are not working properly.

Looks like a fuse was the problem. With a new 15a fuse the hellas are working again. I'm going to use some dialectic grease on the connection points too just in case. Thanks.
