How to get a penny out of the CD player?!

Hey all,

Does anyone have tips or tricks for removing foreign objects (in this case, a penny) from the Ford factory CD slot? Still plays, but won't eject, and we're more than a week from home!! As much as I love Gogol Bordello, I might tire of it by then

Barring that, does anyone in the SF Bay Area (which is where I am right now, in Mountain View) have a stock stereo lying around after an upgrade? Mine's an '08.

Cheers!
Mike.

I think that a couple of "hills" we went up with Bill Burke last week in Moab would shake that penny loose in quick order! Just hook your winch to a tall tree and do a "The Gods Must Be Crazy" drill on it, and I'll bet that penny will come right out!

Now understand I have never tried this, but I heard that if you fill the CD player with oatmeal that the penny will slide right out........ wait...maybe that was on a VCR.... hhmmm not sure now.

If you are prepared to remove it anyway to replace, why not just remove it and shake it a bit with the opening on the bottom? Might just fall out.

Oh...sorry...... yes, the oatmeal should be cooked (not raw)...

BUT maybe the shaking it out approach would be better.

That's why I won't put anything less than a quarter in my CD players!

So, uh, is there a story behind this? Penny fight maybe?

Re: How to get a penny out of the CD player?!

Thanks everyone! I think I'll try all of your suggestions at once, by backing the van over a ledge into a pool of cooked oatmeal

No real story... my 1.5 year old was playing up front, and found a penny in the cupholder. I can't say I blame him for pushing it into the CD slot - it seems the perfect place for it! Of course, my 3 year old thought this was a great idea, and later in the day pushed a penny into the cigarette lighter outlet! That no longer works, either I've always hated pennies!

I think I'll be stringing a net between the two front seats from now on!

Cheers,
Mike.

PS - anyone pull a stereo out of these vans before? Does the dash trim have to come off? It doesn't look like it, but wanted to check before attempting it.

Have you tried a copper magnet? Just my 2 cents worth

I wonder what SMB does with all the old players they pull? You're fairly close.

I removed the lighter element from my dash, just in case.

I have a 3 year old.

Re: How to get a penny out of the CD player?!

Yes! Definitely - no lighter element in there, thanks for thinking of it. It's easy to overlook all of these safety things when there are little kids around.

It's the outlet itself that's not working - won't power any 12v accessories. Probably just a fuse.
