Just be happy that it was something so simple. The few times I've used my in-dash display to watch a video, as oppossed to my drop-down video display in the passenger area, I almost always forget that it won't display without the parking brake being on. Eventually I'll have a Homer Simpson moment (d'ohhh) and figure it out.

FWIW, my Hi-idle system will come on with the engine running if in Park and the Parking Brake is on. If I touch the brake, it will drop the RPMs back down, but a few seconds later it will ramp back up if left on. I can also engage it if the engine is already running.
