This is a remote start component, Directed electronics 454T. Thing is I don't remember it being on there when I took out the old alternator or replacing. After the guy who helped me replace didn't tighten anything I took it to my diesel place. Around the time we originally took it apart the avatal remote start from SMB stopped running- it starts but immediately shuts down.
Is this part of the SMB alarm install? Could it be my remote start run problem?

That is the remote start module that senses the crank trigger. That one looks to be in really poor shape for one reason or another. I'm actually surprised you are able to remote start the van at all with it looking that way. My money says replacing that will solve your issues.
On further inspection, the ground wire was left disconnected from the alternator install (it was actually resting on the alternator belt )
According to my mechanic friend it probably melted because of no ground, although I'm fairly certain the diesel hotbox that is our van's engine bay softened it up first...
