I'm a SAR guy, too, though I'm not K9. But I understand your needs as guys on my team deal with them.

For outside stuff, a generator is a simple solution. Solar will help a lot, too.

Also, minimize the heat gain with light colored paint and window covers. On top of that, you'd be surprised how much the Fantastic Fan roof vents lower the inside temperature. I've slept in my van, mid summer, on the beach, with only the fan going, until 11:30 ~ish before it got too hot. Running the engine got the temp comfortable again in less than 5 minutes.

If you're inside an arena, you're under a roof (out of the sun) and it won't get too hot for the dogs.

Somebody else mentioned the Chilly Dog remote start, which will start the van when the inside temperature reaches your preset point. Many remote starters will also give you the option of starting the van every couple of hours and running for a preset time. Leave the van AC switch on high and you're all set.

I think those 6 monster batteries are huge overkill. Just my two cents...
