Re: LED Light Bar vs. Hella 4000 halogen

I haven't out driven my regular headlights since I did a Cibie e-code conversion.

To save you the looking, here's my mod that DaveB mentioned.

Thanks and apologies for the delayed response--been off-line and heading home. I saw that thread and liked the look. How did you power the lights? I haven't looked at the fog lights but I assume they're a standard headlamp-style plug.

In the alternative, can I just swap a Hella driving light for the fog lights?

I wired in the Rigid plugs that they give you.. if you already have lights, you could easily use the same wiring, you'd just have to swap plugs.

Re: LED Light Bar vs. Hella 4000 halogen

I thought CellularSteve posted what he did but couldn't find the post. You might PM him but he's been spotty on the site since the new addition to his family came along. He is real happy with the new bulbs or fixtures. They are not LED IIRC.

The bulbs are actually rally bulbs from Europe.

I in fact just did this same mod to my XJ Jeep. I now have 5 vehicles with Cibie e-code lights!!
Putting relays in (Daniel Stern sells a kit) is mandatory. You'll melt the OEM wiring otherwise.

The lenses are awesome. I make no claims about legality in any US state or territory.

Re: LED Light Bar vs. Hella 4000 halogen

I recently added a combo flood/spot 50" LED light bar, I already had a set of Piaa drivers and a set of Piaa fogs, they are all useful in their own right and all serve different functions. The LED is great for flooding the road right in front of you with lots of light, it is bright, but not for far distance, the driving lights are great for shedding light in the distance. I would keep both, I use all of mine for different situations on/off road. I can't comment on the conversion kits, but from what I can tell on my piaa lights, both the fog and the driving lights take the same bulb, it's the glass diffuser and projector that's different.
