Just this morning there was some stupid cow laying just off the shoulder of the roadway. Could have been really ugly if it had actually been right on the road surface. Scared the crap out of me coming on it at 50mph in very early morning hours.

I get the point of the cheaper ones and how they're replaceable over and over again for the cost of the high dollar ones, but I hate crap that fails if for no other reason that it will probably fail when you need it most. I do think there are a lot of common parts sourced from the same factory between the high-cost and low-cost ones, but typically the price differential gets you customer service and a warranty that actually has value. Does that offset the price differential? That's the $64,000 question.

I get it Herb and I agree with you. Certainly I wouldn't keep replacing crap with crap, but trying one for $60 is a low risk investment, warranty or not. If it actually does last, it was a good gamble, but if it quits, your out less than the cost of a tank of gas. If your driving so fast that your safety depends on a light bar, and your regular headlights won't show dangerous road side stuff, you probably drive faster than me, but then again, many do. There are things I consider quality to be very important with, and others that I can get by with lower quality. My $19Harbor Freight volt meter has been great, I use it far more than my very expensive Fluke for day to day stuff where a high degree of accuracy is not important. Having said that, cows on the road are a real hazzard. Nearly had my head ripped off once due to a road side cow in Mexico.

I appreciate it, but those are waaaay too long for my application. I'm looking for one somewhere between 10" - 20".

Yes, I've got a 50" mounted on my rig's roof rack, BIG and BRIGHT!! I do have a 20" I picked up with this lot, but I may use that on my project van. I'll keep an eye out at the next auction for some smaller sizes.

I run a mid priced 50" curved combo bar on my van, sourced from a reputable dealer in Switzerland, who happens to be a former and since then a friend of mine. I'm a LED junkie, so I may be easy bait for things like that.
What I'm still after, and haven't found yet, are mounting brackets to fit the light bar in front of the upper part of the windshield, flush with the roof.

You mean a mount that uses the rain gutter? I picked this one up to mount with a 50" light bar. C-Profile Light Bar

Partly, because it's cheap and before I commit to the wiring and putting a hole in the roof I want to see how much wind noise it makes.

If it works out ok, then I might use one of these mounts and fabricate a spacer in order to use a 50" curved light bar. Inspired Engineering Cherokee V2 XJ 50" LED Bar mount

That's not quite what I'm after. Having a low top van and planning to keep it as low as possible, I'd rather have something alongs these lines:

Rough Country Jeep XJ lightbar mount
