Don't recall but the bayonet style are off set or even...might want to check that.

Working with an analogue mind in a digital world. Yes they are the 51002s. I flipped them over and they all work just fine. Not sure I would have figured out the problem without your help, thanks.

Re: LED Lighting Conversion

Larrie, most LED bulbs are directional. If they don't work one way reversing them may do the trick. You have a 50-50 chance of getting them in the right way the first time but for me I almost always have them in wrong the first time I try them. Try that before sending them back...

Re: LED Lighting Conversion

I am now officially fully LED on the interior and exterior (porch light) of the van. Not sure why it took me so long to do this simple project. Thanks to all that have posted on this thread as I used it as a guide. Many of the part numbers have changed over time so you have to hunt and peck on the websites to find the parts you need but one benefit is that the prices have gone WAY down from those listed on this thread so get off your butt and do it.

Re: LED Lighting Conversion

Just found this LED place today. They have a sale on some things that would work really well in a van and ridiculously cheap. I bought a bunch of the .99 cent modules as well as some of the LED strips. I have used the strips before, they are super simple to install and work well. Everything is 12v as well.

You have to look under the sale tag as well as under the regular tags to find all the sale stuff.

Re: LED Lighting Conversion

I just ordered festoon bulbs for my SMB. I had already done the reading lights. I'm leaving the flouros for now.

I ordered bulbs in red and white. I need red for camping at star (astronomy) parties, no white light allowed.

I do have a complete new fixture switchable red/white LED similar in size to the flouros, may install that later.

I think my fluoros are single switch and I can't find red LEDs for them... so seeing as I don't use them much, no rush. (edit) I guess I could use LED strip and a SDPT switch, too lazy right now.

Re: LED Lighting Conversion

The LED place I posted about had some red strip lights on sale. I bought a few for just that purpose, nice to be able to read a map or find something without blowing your eye's accommodation to the dark.

Re: LED Lighting Conversion

When I converted my fluorescent fixture, I added a second switch so I could have multiple levels of light. You could do something similar with a red side and a white side.

Excellent idea Viejo! I'll have to update my fixture.

Hi Greg,

How are the LED's that you bought working out? These look like the easy way to replace the incandescents.
