Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus

Update Dave and Scatter ,
I spoke with Sean this A.M. about an appointment for next week , and was informed that he is going to build and have these units available at their shop on a regular basis . He also has an updated computer code for our van's that he said he would do for us at the time of the install.
They take care of Ambulance fleet's with the 6.0 and 7.3 diesels so he has to stay on top of the factory codes and changes for them .

Great. Any idea how long it takes? I would hate to leave it down there if I don't need to.

Greggde,

Are you just having a new airbox installed, or are you having the filter replaced as well? I'm leary of "free flow" air filters, because they seem to achieve "free flow" by making the filtering material more porous. There are some filters out there (not sure about 6.0L or E350 applications) that achieve more flow by making the filter larger.

I used to use a K&N air filter on my Bronco, but I didn't like the combination of oiled filters and lots of dust from driving in the desert. A big mess, and I wasn't sure I was getting the filtering I wanted. Went to the largest paper filter I could install, and have been perfectly satisfied ever since.

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus

I ran a cylindrical K&N exposed on the roof of my Cherokee and it was subject to dirt, dust, rain, and mud. The engine never seemed to lack for air so I always figured the flow was all right.

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus

The PO had already put K&N filters in. I do not like K&N for off road use. I have enduro bikes and will not use K&N's for them. I will use K&N for the SMB when driving streets. Better flow and cheaper to clean and reinstall, but I do carry new paper filters if the van will be going off road (dusty).

Re: Mileage on diesels - BullyDogs - Redline 85 Plus

Herb ,
The filter that they use is cleanable and does use some type of light oil .I cannot comment on the actual installation until I get up there this Thursday . Zylstra does not cut out any sheet metal they have apparently reconfigured the entire intake system to accommodate the additional air flow . I will get as much information as possible for all of us and photographs . There is no sense in all of us spending $500.00 for a system that may or may not be an improvement on our delightful 6.0TD .
