New motion sensor porch light

Can you turn off the motion sensor part of the light if you don't want it to detect things at night. I am thinking at a campground close to neighbors you don't want it going off in the middle of the night and bother them. Also sometimes you want to exit the van stealthy and not have all the lights go off on you. Has anyone replaced your porch light with this and do you like them better?

A good price for them and bonus they come with LED bulb.

Re: New motion sensor porch light

Roonie,

Sounds like the light itself will switch between motion sensing mode and porch light mode, which I assume would mean on full time. However, I think the solution is so simple you've overlooked it. You already have a power switch for your existing porch light. Just switch off the power at night when you don't want the light to come on.

I've been looking at these for awhile, and may upgrade myself.

Cheers,
Brent

Years ago, someone joined here and kept talking these up. Seemed fishy to a number of us, and eventually he admitted that he was a distributor. One example of the sensitivity here of people not being up-front about vested financial interests.

That said, it seems like a useful product, and if I recall, it was a form and fit replacement for the typical SMB provided porch light.

I think they are putting these on new vans as standard now? I could be wrong. I got the link above from expedition portal and a thread on exterior lighting.

Re: New motion sensor porch light

SMB has been offering those for a while...I got one. Switch it on and it's in the motion position, switch it off and back on and its on full time. Turn it off and its off. They have them in LED or standard lighting. I have the Led and it's very bright, maybe bothersome to some.

Re: New motion sensor porch light

I put one on my van and itís ok. The part I find bothersome is when the motion sensor is on a blue light blinks. Itís actually kind of bright.

When we were putting our build together, there was an option for a standard porch light, and the motion sensor was an upgrade. We decided against both.

Re: New motion sensor porch light

I have 2 porch lights one on each side. We rarely use them but when we do it is very nice to have! Sitting under awning at night playing cards or cleaning up camp. The LED attracts a lot less bugs. I was thinking the motion sensor would be nice to have this last summer since it probably would have scared off a grizzly bear that decided to check our van out one night while we were camping in it.
