Thanks Greg, I didn't know that. I have a simple relay that closes when it senses the key is in the run position. I can see where a bidirectional seperator could be an advantage, like when the van sits for long periods with an alarm or other load on the start battery that would otherwise go dead.

One downside of the Surepower relay type bidirectional units is that in very low sunlight conditions, a good portion of the solar power is burned up just keeping the relay energized......ie conditions where there is sunlight to get the voltage high, but not really making much current.

Alright. Finally had some time to drop the house battery and poke around. Battery terminals were a little corroded and there was evidence the lugs from the cables weren't in full contact. Cleaned everything up, filed everything flat and reinstalled. Also rewired the portable solar leads that I had originally installed directly to the battery to the internal 'junction' under the sofa and rerouted the hookup into the Propane compartment. So far the voltmeter only drops a 1/10 or 2 when fridge kicks on. No weird clicking either... Fingers crossed, need it to be dialed for our Targhee trip next wkd for the 4th....
