Passenger side Cab 12v outlet

Has anyone added a 12v outlet to the passenger side of the cab of a Ford SMB?

We want to add a 12 volt outlet to the passenger side mainly for a laptop power supply, to avoid running the power cord across the top of the doghouse.

If anyone has done this, where did you locate it?

What equipment did you use?

Have any photos of your install?

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've heard there are passenger side and driver side house battery wires already running up each side of the van. Not sure where they go, but they should be labeled in the house power distribution block and they wind up in the headliner.

Some of the things in my headliner have house power, but a large green wire coming forward over the driver door is actually cab illumination (on with dome lights) so your mileage may vary, but finding a power line should be easy.

And RV stores should carry the wall style 12v plugs.

There are both constant and ignition "on" 12volt power sources under the dash on the driver side. You can route a wire to the passenger side knee panel if you'd like. The knee panel snaps off of the metal base behind it. Locate a spot for the outlet that doesn't interfere with the metal base if you can. Be careful when routing the wire as the metal under/behind the dash has very sharp edges! It will cut you and the wire, so use caution.

SMB is now using marine type 12volt outlets which work very well. The smooth bore on these outlets will accomodate just about any type of 12volt plug.

I hope this helps.
