Penthouse motor partial raise

Just went to raise the penthouse (while van running) it went partial up. Then I tried to make sure nothing was caught. Pushed button again and continued all the way up

Lowered no problem—raised did the same thing but continued after I let off the button and pushed again. This time plugged in and van running so house battery not an issue.

Tested it a third time and it went up without stalling.

Anyone have this issue—want to stop a problem before it happens.

Yes they were but there is a chance I figured out the problem.

Someone had suggested that I had too much weight on top in the Thule

Interestingly I had JUST added a bunch of items. I took them out yesterday and did a quick check and it went up without pausing. I’m On the move again so will be testing to see if happens again.

I didn’t think I had added that much weight until I went to remove the items. I probably had added about 30 pounds making it a total of roughly 100 in the Thule

Well you didn't say that the first time.

While I have no experience with SMB, I have years with Westfalia's. Found out right away that If a door or window wasn't cracked, it took extra effort to raise.
And if the doors and window were closed while lowering, the sides would ballon out.

Careful, too much weight (>~200) will permanently bow your lifting bars.

LUBE LUBE LUBE!!!! Had an issue (opposite) dropping a few inches, then dropping about 8 inches hard to the top....one side would catch then drop etc...hadn't ever lubed b/c forgot on walk around when first picked up or never touched on in first place (which me thinks first thought)...anyway, we have a 100lb canoe incl gear, TV dome, and a solar panel...it groans a bit going up but lube helps all!

Lube where?

Another factor is having your weight up top centered.

Ok, here is what I was shown at NorthSMB as we drove her in for the above problems... (my language may include do-hicky, thingy, and watch-a-ma call it)
These are lubed when fully extended...
Pic 1, find screws that hold down carpet by the electric lift motors...that will expose the piston(s) (extended/both sides) spray lube piston bars...
Pic2 lube where cross bars connect into ceiling of PH (the gray rectangles), get in there with tube extender for lube (bars are rotating on wood/wood...crazy but true)
Pic3 Easiest to lube, is the bar that actually pushes cross bars up you can see the silver part in pic...iit slides in and out of the guide pipe
pic4 my mistake as pic 5...

BUT as you lube the piston (pic 1 and 4 lol)follow it up to lube where cross bars are connected in the well...as you peel back carpet cover it will all be easy to figure out...

I am hoping to get better pics or just go out and do it and take pics...anyway, hope that helps!
