POV Camera & Backup Camera

This is a cool camera you can hook up and record all your adventure's
at any point of view. It POV1 has been through a long 1 year field test and
is a great way to bring you trips to your friends at home. The Visor View
system is a complement to the SMB with audio and views of the rear blind spots. I will put up the links for viewing. If anyone has questions on the field testing write me a pm message.........

Okay, PR, educate me. I love the backup camera on my Prius and have been considering one for our E350 SB SMB. All I need is something to show me when there's something I can't see in the mirror, and to show how close I am to any obstruction. No backup camera can take the place of common sense and good mirror use. So - why should I pay $379 or $399 for this rig instead of under $100 for the wireless backup camera Costco sells?

Well, in this case you for sure want a quality product. I do here you though,
I checked out the cameras that Costco and Wal-Mart had and there is a big
difference. The first thing you have to check is if its wireless or not. The
wireless models tend to get allot of feed back, which I did not like at all. The
other problem was the quality of the camera. Had moisture problems
after the first storm. So I did homework on the many products out there.

The main thing you have to ask yourself:
-Do you want feed back or not on your monitor.
-A weather proof camera.
-Multiple function monitor.
-Good audio.

If you looking for a quick and cheap option the Costco or Wal-Mart options are fine, but will need some tlc for weather proofing and such.

I had Integrated Audio install a backup camera sometime ago, and I love it. It really gives a much bigger, more complete picture that the wireless Costco camera which I also have. How much better vs. the $ is an answer only you can come up with.

I still have my Costco camera installed above my license plate. This picture is unbeatable for hooking up a trailer by yourself.

PR, thank you! I don't need multiple functions and can probably handle weather-proofing, but the feedback issue is interesting. What did you get feedback from and how did it affect the usability of the COSTCO rig? I'm guessing your research will help other Forum members as well, especially in the current situation where $$ are not so plentiful!
Herb, thanks for your input too. Glad to hear that your COSTCO camera works okay. I had indeed noted that the screen is pretty small.

Can you flip the image? Backup cameras are flipped image... it doesn't appear to be a true backup camera in that regard. Also is the camera separate from the control pack? Standard jacks and all that?

Back Up/Pov

Jage,

Which unit is your question for, if it is for the Pov Camera, this unit is a plug and play and meets mil. spec's. we us it in our operation's for the last year. For the Back up camera it depends on what package you choose. I went for a split screen rear view mirror where I can switch back and forth from my back camera to my front Pov camera by remote. And yes both units have all the jacks you need......

We bought some of the cheapest cameras we could find from an on-line supplier. We had one mounted fore and one aft, and had them connected to a really cheap 3.5 inch monitor that flips down. Thusfar this setup has worked without issue.

Since this only gets used during specific instances of need, we have not found that we need anything of any greater quality.

Hey I was looking for a survivorman pole style camera setup (you know, watch yourself drive ) to post here and I found this:

It kind of reminds me of Buji's system.
