Power door locks

Hey everyone, I just tried to unlock my van with my key fob and the passenger side front door lock just made a grrr sound and would not unlock. Funny thing is it will lock with the key fob but just makes a grrr sound when I try to unlock it. The drivers side front door lock works normal. Any advice on diagnosing this for a cheap fix would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Sounds like the actuator is busted.

Yup that’s my thought after a bunch of research. Do you think it’s a reasonable DIY or should a mechanic do it.

Power door locks

Should be an easy DIY. If you have a pick-and-pull yard near you, a cheap replacement would probably be easy to find.

The most awkward part is drilling out the rivet that holds the solenoid in place--and it's really not that bad. Personally, I installed a rivnut on the metal bracket attached to the solenoid and used an SS button head screw instead of a rivet to attach it to the door. It's highly unlikely that you'll ever need to remove the solenoid, but it makes it easier to R&R in case you do.

It’s not hard to do, hardest part being the rivet to drill out. I also agree using a stainless steel button bolt would be a good idea. The may be hard to put back on just because of the tight space and trying to get the nut on the inside of the door. Harbor freight sells a heavy duty rivet tool for $20, I think it’s worth it.
