Program Keyless Entry Fobs on 1995 Ford E250

I have a 1995 Ford E250 SMB with the factory installed power door looks and SMB installed Covert alarm system. The Fobs for the alarm system stopped working (even with new batteries) and Covert Alarm company does not exist anymore for replacements. So, I want to go back to the original Ford keyless entry Fobs. I did not like the alarm system anyway.

I got some Fobs (thanks Peter @ SMB) and was told that I should be able to reprogram them and all is well. Not so far. We much research I found out how to reprogram them on the 1995s, you have to "Jump pins in programming connector located at the base of the steering column ..". I have looked and looked (looking under the dash is a very uncomfortable position I may add) and have not found this "programming connector". First off, there is no description of the connector (color, shape, labeled?).

I am looking for any help I can get on locating this connector. Any pictures?

I have a similar question so I'll add it here: I have a 98 Ford E250 SMB with power locks, but no keyless entry. Is it possible to add fobs/keyless entry to my van, or did it have to come from Ford with some additional hardware?

If the Keyless entry was added by the original dealer, the module may have been put behind the driver's kick panel.

Brian - older vans require adding the keyless entry module (many dealers stock it). It wasn't until later ('03 I think) when keyless entry became integrated into the body control module, which means it exists in all vans with power locks, so only the fobs need to be added.

Brian it is my understanding that remote entry can be added if you have electronic locks by companies that also install car security systems.

Yes, aftermarket keyless entry kits are available too. Model-specific ones are nice because they will only include the circuits needed. In the case of the kelyess entry/alarm/remote-start kit I put in my van, the wires were all color coded too so installation was very easy. But for the newer vans, adding factory key fobs only requires a 1-minute song and dance with the ignition and lock button to program new key fobs.

Thanks for posing this question. (And carringb, thanks for the Ford info.) I have an SMB similar to yours - power locks but no fob. I just figured I was out of luck! I would really like to have the fob system. If you happen to price/part-number the genuine Ford add-on system, I would be interested to hear what you find out. If I do it, I'll post back.

Back, to the original post. Does anyone have any details on locating the jumper connector to reprogram the 1995 Ford E250 Keyless entry.

Thanks for the help on THIS question.

Re: Program Keyless Entry Fobs on 1995 Ford E250

Here is the actual text from the service manual:

Quote:
F. Turn ignition to RUN or ACC. Jump pins in programming connector located at the base of the steering column for entire programming mode procedure. All doors will lock then unlock to confirm porgramming mode. Press any button on the 1st transmitter. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. Press any button on 2nd transmitter (up to 4 transmitters total possible). Turn ignition to OFF. The door locks will lock then unlock to confirm programming. Remove jumper used with programming connector.
I don't think the programmer connector is located at the RKE module. Look for a small 2-pin wire connector. Probably looks similar to a fuel injector connector, and it probably taped to the main harness, so have a knife ready.

Here's the diagram for a slightly newer vans but the dash wiring should be similar:

Thanks for the help. I will climb back under the dash and see if I can find it.

Thanks
