Recommendations for stereo?
Hi - I'm picking up a 2006 SMB that still has the stock stereo. Any recommendations? Don't need video of any kind, but good sound, USB, Blue tooth, etc.
Thanks
Steve

I'd recommend a flat-screen-type double-DIN unit, even though you say you don't need video. DVD receivers generally allow you to connect a rear-view camera directly to the headunit, which is a very nice option on a van. Plus, if you want, you can run a video-out cable from the headunit back to the rear of the van, where you could hook up a small TV to watch DVDs if you ever want to go that route (plus you'll get great sound from the DVD through your stereo speakers). I set my van up like that, although I haven't actually used the video function yet.
With prices starting at about $260, it's really the way to go IMO. I like the Kenwood units, but Pioneer and other brands make some nice ones, too.
For some examples, see http://www.crutchfield.com/g_300/All...ize|Double-DIN

I run a Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS in my van and it's great. It has a dedicated rear camera input and a second camera input I use to watch my rear-facing baby seat. The options are great and the prices are very reasonable, even for the updated 3800 model.

Guys - thanks so much for recommendations. I hadn't really thought about the benefits of the screen and backup camera options. I have some research to do! Any additional advice on speakers - sizes, locations, etc? Thinking separates up front and small powered sub behind the driver's seat.
And Redoval - after my 900 mile trial run to pick up the van I'll evaluate how badly I need a headlight upgrade, so may be in touch.

Ended up picking up a Pioneer AVH4200-NEX. Can't wait to install it this week! Thanks for the input!

Kenwood DNX693S w/nav, BT and CarPlay going in to replace an older Alpine, it's the one with the volume knob, which many prefer, if you want a little bigger screen with no knob then it's the DNX893, but it's a bit more $. If you don't want nav, the DDX6903S/DDX9903S look to be nice, has all the goodies just no built in nav, but includes CarPlay to use your smart phone

With some recommendations on this forum, I settled on a Kenwood DNX572BH Navigation/DVD/CD Receiver I bought from Crutchfield. It's a double-DIN unit with provision for a backup camera. I also upgraded the front door and rear door speakers with Infinity from Crutchfield. Love it!

about 1100 miles with the Pioneer AVH4200NEX so far. I bought it mainly because of the Apple Play integration. Sounds great but Apple Play is kind of glitchy with Spotify and iTunes. Maps and Siri integration is really good. I think I would be 90% as happy and $300 richer using just bluetooth and a non-carplay receiver though.
