Replacing florescent fixtures w LED

I'm looking for some ideas for replacing a couple of these fixtures with LED. Something that shows downward rather than out would be cool. I'd like to see what others have done. Any ideas appreciated.

Tough call with the fixture installed like that. Years ago I replaced the tubes in my florescent fixture with LED strips. Maybe you could angle the strips down rather than out, but the diffuser might negate that advantage.

Nice links! Lighting replacement is on my list. The original SMB installation leaves a lot to be desired.

Yeah thanks unreng... def possibilities. I'm thinking when I remove the existing lights I'm going to need to figure out how to mitigate the marks the fixtures have left on the panel so I'm on the hunt for something that may have a similar footprint.

Give me a hint Gooseberry... I'm searching yr posts but not finding it. Thanks!

Now we're talking. I hadn't thought of pulling the guts out of the existing and replacing w LED as Jage illustrated in his post. I'll do that if I can't find something suitable that shines down. Thanks for the links Chris.

I have replaced the dome light in my 03 E350 with led from online, after market lighting.
WOW...way better than original lighting. Also replaced individual Sportsmobile side lights, much improvement.
(HOTSYSTEM.......is what is on the package)
Google RV lighting 12 volt.
I was able to buy a replacement doom light with same footprint as original equipment.
As I mentioned the increased light is amazing.

I would like to replace the ceiling light in my Traverse with a fixture that is not crush-able; i.e can withstand being pressed on without breaking. I have shoulder issues and cannot lift the top with my arms; I have to use my back. The plastic covers on my current fixture are easily breakable. Any ideas would be welcome. (Photo attached.)
