Smart battery meter problems

Was having a problem with the Victron Energy BMV-6005, similar to a Xantrex smart meter, smart battery meter that is in my rig. It was working fine up until now. Recently it would occasionally work and other times it would not show any data.

Was cleaning the starting and house battery terminals today and while I had the hood up I checked the wiring to the Victron. Everything looked right. Then I opened the fuse holder. Their was corrosion on the contacts on both sides of the fuse. Cleaned them up and the unit is now working perfectly again.

For those of you who are not familiar with this type of meter it can display real time battery voltage, amp draw, run time till battery is drained, and a few more things. The latest version BMV-700 connects to an app on your phone. I have not interest in the company, just find the meter very handy.

Good to know. I have a Victron monitor as well and like it. I need to fiddle a little bit more with the settings - it feels like my aH's used is a little optimistic (in other words, my voltage drop / level seems a bit low for the aH's show used sometimes). I raised the battery voltage at which it reset itself so that the voltage from the solar panel coming in wouldn't reset it already. In comparison, it seemed like the Trimetric monitor just worked without having any real user input settings to fuss with. I do like the smaller size and more modern look of the Victron when compared to the Trimetric though.

For those that have not used a monitor that does more than just monitor voltage, I must say it is a great thing to have to determine your power usage and keep an eye on your battery health / deterioration.

Garage
My Link-10 does the same. All the connections points need to be clean and free from corrosion as much as possible.

Buy some dielectric grease and coat all the exposed wiring and terminals.
